Stuck at home? Watch No Way Home

From those who are die-hard freaks about the Marvel Universe to those who don’t really know what is going on, like my mother, Spider-man No Way Home will keep you hanging on by a web!

We all need a hero and a distraction, the actor Tom Holland does a great job as your friendly neighborhood Spider-man. At the end of Far From Home, Mr. Mysterio revealed Spider-man’s real identity through a Daily Bugle international broadcast. No Way Home picks up with this revelation as the world invades upon Peter and his family’s privacy. In an attempt to protect his friends and family, Peter seeks the help of wizard, Doctor Strange, in the hopes of being able to erase the memories of everyone who knows his identity, but in the process of doing so, something goes wrong. Peter Parker encounters many different villains, some of whom just might be familiar, and the movie leaves clues as to what the next Spider-man movie might be about.

Tom Holland is Spider-man. Peter Parker was written to be a really smart and kinda nerdy teenager. Not only does his youthful age (25) help, but his awkward enthusiasm in his interactions with MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) propel the story along. Even Flash Thompson (Joe Manganiello) provides comedic relief in the form of genuine adolescent jealousy. Previous portrayals of Spider-man by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield just didn’t capture “nerd” nearly as well as Holland does.

The atmosphere of New York intensifies the experience of Spider-man’s powers. The producers hone in on actual locations, like the doughnut shop named Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop located in Brooklyn. It’s cool to see how the movie uses its surrounding buildings and environment to boost the realism of the movie even when people are swinging around.

I love this movie because it keeps your mind off of COVID and immersed in a world where the masks hide identities and not germs. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled in the end credits so you don’t miss what happens next! New to the Spider-Verse, even my mom gave this one her recommendation.  Go see it. So far, I have gone twice.
