The second addition to the Pioneer family is Kylie Cassulo, a new math teacher and recent graduate from ISU.
Growing up Cassulo always wanted to be a teacher as she was a math tutor in 7th and 8th grade. Her mom was a teacher and she considers her to be her teaching mentor.
“She was always known to be such an amazing teacher and she also teaches math and so I like talking to her about it,” Cassulo said. “I always wanted to be as good as her, but I have also come to see that I am very different.”
Cassulo always tries to have an activity to go along with what she is teaching in her math classes in order to have her students become more involved, whether that is with Desmos or burning candles to try to find a slope. Cassulo’s favorite math subject to teach is Calculus.
“I really like how in-depth it gets and it uses every single type of math that you go through,” Cassulo said.
Cassulo’s other passions growing up were softball, golf and basketball, and in the future years she might try to help out with U-High’s basketball teams. Cassulo is also very passionate about Taylor Swift.
“I really love Midnights and I also love Folklore/Evermore and if we want to go nostalgic, Speak Now,” Cassulo said. “Songs also depend on the mood but some songs I would go to are ‘All Too Well’ 10 Minute Version, ‘Champagne Problems’, and ‘Maroon’.”
She even went to the Eras Tour, Kansas City night 1 where she got to see Speak Now’s music video for ‘I Can See You’; she also saw Taylor Lautner.
“During my surprise song ‘Never Grow Up’, looking around the stadium everyone was actually singing it and it just felt so amazing, like ‘wow, I am a part of something. This was from so long ago and everyone just still loves it,’” Cassulo said.
If she had a theme song it would be either ‘Long Live’ by Taylor Swift, ‘Try Everything’ by Shakira, or ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ by Bobby McFerrin. Her go to karaoke song is also ‘Love is an Open Door’ from Frozen, which she often sings with her sister.
“I’m always the guy because she [her sister] is older than me, so of course she got to pick the girl part. That is our go to every time,” Cassulo said.
