With only three home matches remaining in the season, the Pioneers wrestling team prepares to host Dee-Mack on Monday night. The meet begins at 6:00 pm in the main gym. Admission is free for U-High students with ID, $4 for visiting students, and $6 for all adults.
For Noah Beard, a senior, competing on home mats makes all the difference. “I’m looking forward to seeing more familiar faces in the crowd,” he said. Just as with any sport, an enthusiastic turnout from the community will provide extra motivation, but Beard shares another reason for the excitement, which is that people on the team have been waiting to show off their abilities to their fans.
“There have been a few people on the team this year who have been putting in the extra work in order to win, and they want to display that at home,” Beard explained.
Senior Grayson Moody will be cheering from the sidelines. Multiple football concussions have currently prevented him from competing. He does, however, remain invested in his team’s success. Moody is particularly excited to watch the program’s younger wrestlers step up.
“I look forward to seeing how a lot of the sophomores and juniors compete, since they’ve been showing a lot of great skill [at practice],” he said.
