Welcome to the U

Six transfer students started their paths as a Pioneer at the beginning of the second semester. These new pioneers are Bret Bauer, Zyon Randle, Cory Maaks, Keegan Bouman, Jackson DuBois and Paige Rowe.

“We choose from who applied in the spring” principal Andrea Markert said. “We try to fill the class spots to get each class to 150 students. This time we brought in mostly freshman because their number was low.”

Freshman transfer from Central Catholic, Paige Rowe, is excited to participate in the athletic programs. She will be focusing in cheerleading and track and field.

“I chose to transfer to U-High because my older sister goes,” Rowe said. “ It is the school I wanted to go to.”

Also a freshman transfer from Normal West, Keegan Bouman, enjoys the dynamic environment that  U-High brings.

I had seen the amount of maturity in classrooms and I had wanted to go to Uhigh for a while,” Bouman said. “I like my schedule better! I think the teachers are a lot more involved with the students here.”

The counselors try to adapt the schedules to the transfers’ previous school schedules.

“We try to line up the classes as the school before,” Markert said.

Freshman transfer Cory Maaks feels comfortable with his new schedule.

“At Olympia we had Block Schedule so they were 80 minute classes,” Maaks said. “These 55 minute classes are a lot easier to keep up with.”

Rowe also enjoys to her new class schedule.

“Everyone at U-High made sure my transfer was as easy as it could be,” said Rowe.“I like my schedule better here.”

Though all these students faced difficult changes with being  transfers, they accept this challenge with an optimistic mindset for a great future at U-High.
